Historical Houses & Castles

Cornwall has such a vibrant history that can be seen and experienced in its well-preserved fortifications, stately and grand manor houses, open-air theatres, and UNESCO world heritage sites. From defensive fortifications to social estates, these purpose-built monuments show Cornwall’s rich past.

Cornwall homes 12 castles. Some are still lived in whilst others are mere ruins and the oldest of the latter is Launceston Castle having been built in 1068. Many of the others were erected during the Tudor period due to increased worries over Spanish and French invasions.
