Delve into the sultry world of Poldark, the creation of novelist Winston Graham. Due to its popularity, the books were turned into the hit BBC period drama series in the 1970’s, and later again in 2015. Which uses a multitude of stunning Cornish locations and beautiful brooding, backdrops for visitors to immerse themselves in.
Suggested Tour Itinerary:
Heading West, we drive the coast road from St Ives to Pendeen, renowned as one of the most scenic roads in the county. Take a tour of ‘Tressiders Rolling Mill’, where Poldaks family copper was sent for processing. We overlook the ‘Grambler’ engine house perched on the cliff edge and take a short coastal walk to see ‘Wheal Leisure Mine’. Now heading to the South coast, we stop at the village of ‘Sawle’ and visit the cove where Ross skinny-dips as Demelza watches from the cliff above. On the Lizard Penisula, we visit the cove of the great shipwreck in series 1, ending our day at one of the locations filmed as ‘Nampara Cove’ where Ross was arrested.
We start the day at the Georgian Port of Charlestown to see the impressive square-rigged tall ships, named as ‘Truro’ in the series. Look out for Verity and Captain Blamey eloping on the harbour wall! We leave the South coast and head North to the stunning backdrop of Park head, where many of the horse riding scenes were filmed. Heading West we next visit ‘Warleggan’s beach’, and if the tides allow the Holywell where Drake and Morwenna make their wish to be together. Next, we stop at Perranporth the home of the author Winston Graham before heading to ‘Wheal Grace’. We finish our day at the real Poldark Mine where you can go underground and experience the life of Cornish Tin Miner.
